Your child woke you up in the middle of the night? Are you having problems at work? Your neighbors decided to celebrate their birthday a little loudly? Anyway, you’re awake now and you can’t get back to sleep! Here are a few tips to get back to sleep quickly.

Wake up! There’s no point in staying in bed turning from one side to the other, if you haven’t gone back to sleep in 15 minutes, get up! Indeed, the bed must remain associated with sleep, if you don’t sleep nothing is good to stay in bed because it would only increase your stress. On the other hand, once you are up, stay in night mode, i.e. don’t turn on any violent lights, just turn on a small dimmed light.

Read. Instead of watching TV or surfing on your mobile phone, take a book. Reading tends to make it easier to fall asleep, but avoid books that are too frightening or too exciting, which would over-stimulate your brain!

Drink a hot drink as the body will do everything it can to cool down your body temperature, which helps you sleep. Favour herbal teas with soothing plants such as chamomile, lavender, valerian. Avoid cups that are too large to avoid waking up a second time to go to the bathroom!

Put on socks, the goal being to go back to sleep and not to be sexy! In order for the body temperature to go down, the temperature of the extremities must go up. Have you ever noticed how impossible it is to fall asleep with cold feet even if you are very tired?

Try relaxation techniques. You can test several of them to find the one that suits you best. Once you have found one, you can use it in the middle of the night to make falling asleep easier.
